Hendre’s Development team successful in delivering sustainable housing
Hendre's Development team have been successful in delivering sustainable housing that achieves the "Passivhaus" standard.
Cae Gleision in Bridgend comprises 31 houses and flats and is occupied by tenants of fellow Hendre Group member, Hafod Housing Association. All of the properties within the development have been constructed by Bridgend based Holbrook Construction Limited to achieve a minimum Code Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes with two of the properties achieving "Passivhaus" rating and include such measures as:
- solar power to heat hot water
- under floor heating
- air source heat pump instead of mains gas fed boilers
- low energy light fittings throughout the properties
- eco flow showers and tap fittings that use less water
- larger windows to allow more daylight
Matthew Davies, Director of Development Services for Hendre Limited said "This Code Level 4 development undertaken for Hafod Housing with contractors Holbrook Construction includes two properties which meet Passivhaus standard and demonstrates that you do not have to deviate too far from the aesthetics of traditional housing in achieving higher environmental sustainability standards. These properties help minimise energy costs for the occupiers whilst also helping to reduce carbon emissions through the use of renewable energy technology."
Paul Mantle, Hafod Housing Maintenance Manager echoed Matthew's comments and added "This is our first development which meets Code Level 4 and exceeds the current level required by the Welsh Assembly. I believe this shows our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and also importantly reduces running costs for our residents through greater energy and water efficiency. We also believe that building to this Code Standard will provide a healthier place to live for residents by providing more natural light and adaptations for future needs."
